The grapes in this Chardonnay/Tocai Friulano blend are hand-harvested from the steep slopes of the Radikon vineyards in Olsavia and then macerated in oak vats for ten days without temperature control or added yeasts, a process that imparts tannins from the grape skins that act as a natural preservative, allowing Radikon to refrain from adding all but the smallest amount of sulfur. The wine ages in large Slovenian oak casks for 18 months and is racked three times during this process to remove some of the sediment. The result is a viscous, richly-concentrated orange wine with prominent fruit. Unlike their countless imitators, Radikon wines never lose their sense of place.
