Product Description

This is a typical European wine label, with obscure language and a line drawing of the house, in this case an actual Schloss of impressive architecture but otherwise not strikingly different from hundreds of others, unless you notice the tiny type at the very top: Seit 1171. Wine has been made here for over eight hundred years, thanks to the continuity of the monks of Zwettl, and Gobelsburger over time has collected some of the best parcels in Kamptal. Their Zweigelt (a variety created by Langenlois native Fritz Zweigelt) grows in glacial gravel, well drained and poor in organic matter, just the way grapes like it. The result is a clean, light-bodied wine with fabulous red cherry, strawberry, and raspberry fruit, spicy, supportive tannins with savory warmth and the light but definite sprinkle of black pepper which Zweigelt so often shows. Smooth and easy to drink, with tannin, fruit, and acid in a lively balance, it softens as it opens and its savory streak widens, bringing out a Bing and brambleberry tinge to the fruit. Pairing: A basic wine, but not a simple one, it will pair well with seared pork chops, shrimp and marinara, or Wiener schnitzel. SIZE: 750ml TYPE: Red VARIETY: ZWEIGELT SPECIALTY: SCREWCAP REGION: Niederosterreich, AUSTRIA CASE PRICE: $216.00 $194.40
